Your banner is the link preview
The banner on your list is the picture people see when you share it. Choose one, upload your own, or have AI design it.
Your wishlist has a banner at the top. That same picture travels with your link as the preview when you share it — nothing to download, nothing to attach. Pasting the link is enough.
What used to be here: a gallery of generated share images in several shapes — story, square, banner. It was removed in June 2026. The banner took its place: one picture that sits on the list and goes everywhere the link goes.
Choosing your banner
- Open your wishlist
- Tap Design at the top right of the banner — on a narrow screen you’ll only see the pencil
- The Customize the design sheet opens
Your options sit side by side:
| Tile | What it does |
|---|---|
| Upload your own image | Your own photo. JPG, PNG or WebP, 5 MB at most, cropped to 21:9. |
| Create an AI banner | A picture designed from a description you write. |
Before those two sits the default banner for your occasion, which is in place until you change something. Next to it, some occasions offer further finished artwork — each design is its own tile, not a gallery behind one. Only two occasions have any: a birthday gets three (a kids’ birthday for a boy, one for a girl, and a teenager) and a creator page gets three (dark, warm, cool). The other thirteen have none, so there you see only the tiles above.
Every choice takes effect immediately — there’s no save button for the tiles.
Moving the crop
If the image you uploaded is taller than the wide banner shape, a Crop section appears underneath: drag the picture up or down until the right part shows, then save the crop. If your image is already banner-shaped there’s nothing to move, and the sheet says so.
The same sheet also carries the colors of the whole list, under its own heading. That has nothing to do with the preview. More on that →
The AI banner
Choose Create an AI banner and describe in a few words what you want to see — at least 3 characters, at most 300.
Don’t write text or logos into the description. We put the title, the date and the Wishlist.de mark on top ourselves; a second set inside the picture would simply collide.
- Generate banner — it takes a moment
- You see the result as a preview
- Use this banner makes it your list’s banner; Regenerate tries again
Nothing on your list changes until you apply it. Back returns you to the tiles without changing anything.
Worth knowing:
- You can generate 10 banners an hour. After that you wait a little.
- Both your description and the finished picture are checked. If something doesn’t pass, you get a message instead of a picture and your list stays as it was.
- The AI route isn’t available on Wishlist.de’s own editorial lists. On creator pages it is.
How the preview is built
Apps that show link previews — WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook — fetch a preview image when you paste your link. We build it from your banner and lay the title, the date and our mark over it. You do nothing.
Whether an app shows the preview is the app’s decision. Mail programs vary wildly.
Instagram shows no preview. There the bare link lands in your bio or story, and you add a picture yourself.
A private list does not show your banner in the preview. It falls back to our generic image, without your title or the recipient’s name — deliberately, because a preview is fetched by whoever holds the link.
After a change, give it time. The new banner is on your list straight away. We hold the preview image for up to a day, and services like WhatsApp or Facebook often remember their copy longer still. Anyone who already sent the link around may see the old picture for a while.
Sharing
You share the link through the Share button at the top of your list. There you’ll find:
- The link to copy
- WhatsApp as a direct action
- Buttons for Facebook, Telegram, email and LinkedIn
- Instagram, which puts the link on your clipboard for your bio or story
- Your device’s own share sheet
- A QR code
For Slack or Microsoft Teams, copy the link and paste it into the channel.

The thank-you image
Separately from all this, there’s a picture for the thank-you you send after the event. You can upload a photo of your own, or let us design the background; over it go a thank-you word, your numbers and our mark. It travels with the thank-you message. Square is the only shape it comes in.
