Send a thank-you after the event
After the celebration, AI writes one personal thank-you for every gift giver who left an email address. You read them, edit them, send them.
The event is over, the gifts are unwrapped — time to say thank you. The good part: there is almost nothing for you to do. Wishlist.de writes a personal message for every person who gave you something and left an email address, one per person even if they took on several wishes. You read them, change whatever you want, and send the lot with one press.
How it works
In short: our AI knows your wishlist and knows who gave what. From that it writes an individual message for every gift giver who left an email address. Donations stay out of it — they get no thank-you. A money contribution counts as soon as it has been reported or confirmed; somebody who only wrote in the chat gets nothing. So if a friend gave you headphones, their message talks about the headphones. If somebody chipped in towards a travel fund, their message talks about the trip.
A thank-you image is created alongside it, matched to your event. If you would rather show a real photograph, you can upload your own.
When does it turn up?
One to three days after the event date on your wishlist, two things happen. A nightly run prepares it, so it is not the second after the party:
- A banner appears at the top of your wishlist, asking whether you want to thank everyone who gave you something with a personal message.
- An email reaches you letting you know your thank-you is ready — unless you switched notifications off. On a surprise list it goes to your co-owner instead, and with no co-owner it goes nowhere.
Press Create a thank-you in the banner or in the email, and the thank-you page opens.
Good to know — even before the event a small note on your wishlist tells you the thank-you will be along afterwards.
In surprise mode the thank-you waits. While surprise mode is on you cannot see who gave what — and the messages would say. Switch it off once you no longer need the surprise, and the thank-you is there.
Step by step
1. Have it written
On the thank-you page, press Create it now. It takes roughly 20 to 30 seconds. Behind the scenes:
- The AI looks at who gave or contributed what
- A personal message is written for every gift giver
- A matching thank-you image is generated
Then you get the whole thing on one page.
2. Read and adjust
Three areas are in front of you:
Image — an AI image reading THANK YOU, with your name and a few numbers on it, such as how many of your wishes were fulfilled. Press the image to see it full size. Right underneath you can press Upload your own photo to use a photograph of your own, or Generate the AI image again for a fresh one.
General message — this one appears on your wishlist and can be shared on WhatsApp. Edit the text as you like.
Personal messages — one message per gift giver. Edit any of them you want to. Underneath each one it says what that person gave.
Tip: the AI usually writes rather good messages. Skim them — if they work, change nothing.
3. Send
At the bottom of the page, press Send now and the emails go out immediately.
Before that you confirm a short consent line, because these messages are emailed to the people who gave you something.
What happens after you send
Every gift giver gets their own email
- Subject: a personal thank-you from you
- Body: the message written for that one person
- Image: the thank-you image with the numbers on it
- Every email carries an unsubscribe link
On your wishlist
- The general message and the image appear at the top of the page
- Anyone who opens your list sees the thank-you
For you
- You get a summary of how many emails went out
- You can share the thank-you with everyone on WhatsApp
Who gets an email?
Everyone who gave you something and typed a valid email address while reserving. That address is optional — not everybody leaves one.
Gift givers without an address get no email, and you have two easy ways round it:
- Share on WhatsApp — after sending you can share the thank-you with everyone, so people without an address see it too.
- Copy a message — copy any personal message and send it yourself, by text or messenger.
On top of that, the thank-you with its image and general message sits on your wishlist, where every visitor sees it.
The thank-you image
Our AI makes the image. It shows:

The background matches the occasion — a birthday gets something different from a wedding or a baby shower.
Using your own photograph
Prefer a real photograph of the day? Press Upload your own photo right under the image on the thank-you page and choose one: JPG, PNG or WebP, 5 MB at most. We put the heading, your name and the numbers onto your photograph for you.
Your photograph is used exactly like the AI image: it goes into the personal email to every gift giver and to the top of your wishlist page. Back to the AI image takes you back whenever you want.
One more thing — make sure everyone in the photograph is happy for it to be used.
Common questions
Can I edit the messages?
Yes, every single one. Rewrite a message completely or nudge a word. The general message is yours to change too.
Can I use my own photograph?
Yes. Instead of the AI image, upload your own — JPG, PNG or WebP, 5 MB at most. It then appears in the email to the gift givers and on your wishlist page. Back to the AI image brings the generated one back any time.
Does every gift giver get a different message?
Yes, and that is the whole point. Everyone with an email address gets a message about what they actually gave. Whoever gave the headphones reads something else than whoever chipped in towards the travel fund. One message per person: somebody who took on two wishes gets one message naming both.
What if I do not like a message?
No problem — edit it in the text box. Nothing goes out until you say so.
Do I have to send it right away?
No, take your time. The draft is saved. Come back later and read everything properly before you send.
What if I do nothing at all?
A day after the event Wishlist.de prepares your thank-you and emails you about it. If you do not react, a last reminder follows three days later, and after that the draft expires. You can create a new one whenever you like.
Does this work for every kind of wishlist?
The thank-you works for every wishlist with an event date: birthday, wedding, baby shower, office and team, and the rest. Lists without an event date do not have it — in practice that means creator pages, which carry no date field at all.
Can I take the thank-you back after sending?
No. Emails that have gone out cannot be recalled. That is why we show you everything first. Take the time to read it.
