Add a wish: which kind fits
Product, experience, group fund or donation — what each kind of wish does on Wishlist.de and how to pick the right one.
Tap + Add and Wishlist.de asks for a link first. Three routes start there: paste the product link, choose Enter it yourself for a wish with no link, or choose Group fund. Whether a link becomes a product or an experience is something we work out from the shop — you can correct it in the next step under More options.
The four kinds of wish
| Kind | What it’s for | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Something specific from an online shop | Headphones, books, clothes |
| Experience | Tickets, gift cards, things you do together | Concert tickets, a restaurant voucher, a spa day |
| Group fund | Money toward one bigger goal | A trip, an expensive piece of furniture, a laptop |
| Donation | A good cause | An animal shelter, Doctors Without Borders — you can’t create new ones any more; the donation wishes you already have keep working and can still be edited |
Product
For specific things you want, from Amazon, Otto, Zalando and other online shops.
What happens:
- You paste a link or use the wish button
- If the shop lets us read it, the name, the price and the image are already filled in; if it doesn’t, you type them in yourself
- The wish appears on your list
Ways to add one:
- The wish button — a bookmark on your computer, the share sheet on your phone. Fastest.
- Paste the link — copy from the shop, paste here
- Type it in yourself, with no link at all
Experience
For the things you don’t buy in an online shop: tickets, gift cards, an afternoon together.
What happens:
- You give it a name and a description
- Optional: a price, a link, an image
- The wish appears on your list
Examples:
- Concert tickets
- A restaurant voucher
- A day at the spa
- A cooking class for two
- An escape room
Worth doing: with an experience, the description carries most of the meaning. Write something like “gift card for the Italian place on Market Street” or “tickets for the band on March 15.”
Group fund
For wishes several people should chip in on. The price doesn’t decide that — you do.
What happens:
- You give it a name and a target amount, say “Trip to Iceland” for €500
- Your guests see a progress bar
- Everyone contributes what they want to
- How the money reaches you depends on your payment method: with Stripe, guests pay you online; with PayPal or no online payment at all, you collect it yourself
Examples:
- A trip
- A new laptop
- Driving lessons
The important bit: Wishlist.de never collects the money. We coordinate. The money goes straight from your guests to you.
Donation
Rather do some good than get presents? A donation wish sends your guests to a charity instead.
What happens:
- The wish names an organization, usually with a link
- Your guests see it on the list
- They donate directly to the organization
New donation wishes can’t be created any more. If you want to raise money for a cause today, use a group fund and put the cause in the title.
Which kind should you pick?
| What you want | Pick |
|---|---|
| Something specific with a shop link | Product |
| Several people chipping in | Group fund |
| A gift card with no particular shop | Experience |
| Tickets for an event | Experience |
| “I’d like money toward X” | Group fund |
| “Donate instead of gifts” | Group fund, with the cause in the title |
| A promise, like “a weekend with Dad” | Product, typed in yourself |
| Something homemade | Product, typed in yourself |
The three ways in
1. The wish button (our pick)
Install it once, then one click on any product page does the rest.
- Computer: a bookmark in your bookmarks bar
- Phone: install Wishlist.de as an app and share to it
2. Paste the link
The classic: copy the product page link, paste it into Wishlist.de.
3. Type it in yourself
For promises, homemade gifts and anything without a web page. Bonus: we can generate a matching image with AI.
- Promises like “a weekend with Dad”
- Homemade gifts
- Time instead of things
- The shop around the corner
