Want to delete your Wishlist.de account? That’s fine — here’s how it works and what happens along the way.

First: there’s a grace period

Your account is not removed the moment you ask. There’s a waiting period:

For as long as it runs, you can cancel the deletion whenever you like.

Deleting your account

Step 1: open the security tab

1. Open your profile: tap your picture, then Profile
2. Go to the Security tab
3. Scroll down to the danger zone
4. Tap Delete account

Step 2: tell us why

We ask why you’re leaving. It’s how we find out what to fix.

• At least 20 characters
• Be honest — all of it helps

Step 3: confirm

To be sure you mean it:

1. Type the confirmation word into the field
2. Tap the button to delete permanently

What happens then

• You’re signed out immediately
• You get a confirmation email
• Your account is locked, but not yet deleted
• After the grace period we clear up: images and your access are deleted, everything else is anonymized

Had second thoughts? As long as the grace period is running, you can come back.

How to restore your account

1. Sign in — that still works
2. You’ll see a banner telling you when your account is due to be deleted
3. Tap the option to cancel the deletion
4. Done. Your account is back.

• All your wishlists
• All your wishes and settings

What happens after the grace period

Two different things, and the difference matters. We delete your images and your access, and we anonymize the rest. Anonymizing means the row stays but says nothing about you any more — no name, no email address, no picture.

Your wishlists	Anonymized — the recipient’s name is replaced, and the title too unless it is a creator page, where the handle was public anyway

Your messages	Anonymized
Other people’s reservations on your lists	The names stay. They belong to your guests, and only they can remove them by deleting their own account.

Why isn’t everything simply gone? Payment and activity records fall under statutory retention periods in Germany, so we keep them without anything personal attached. One exception: an account that was never confirmed, is older than seven days and neither owns nor co-owns a wishlist is deleted outright — there’s nothing there to keep.

After the grace period this can’t be undone.

Wishlist.de honors your right to erasure:

• Right to erasure — you can ask for deletion at any time
• Grace period — so an accidental click doesn’t cost you everything
• Nothing personal left — afterward your data is deleted or anonymized
• Nothing hidden — whatever stays for legal reasons is in the table above

Common questions

Can I delete my account right now, with no waiting?

No. The grace period is there to protect you, in case you regret it.

What happens to my wishlists?

They go into the trash first, and after the grace period they’re anonymized: the recipient’s name is replaced, the title too on every list except a creator page, and the images are deleted. Guests who reserved something lose access.

Do other people see that my account is going?

No. All they notice is that your lists stop being available at some point.

Can I export my data first?

There’s no export feature at the moment. If you want to keep something, take screenshots or copy it out by hand.

What if I’m a co-owner somewhere?

You’re removed as co-owner. The other person’s wishlist carries on.

Can I sign up again with the same email address?

Yes, once the deletion is final.

The grace period has passed — anything I can do?

No. After that the deletion is final and can’t be reversed.
