Why do I need an account?
Only the person who creates a wishlist needs an account — your guests don’t. What your account protects and which data we keep.
So your list really stays yours: memories, messages and — except in surprise mode — who gave you what can still be read years later, the surprise is protected, and contributions via Stripe or PayPal go straight to you. Signing up takes seconds with Google, Apple or email, and it’s free. Your guests don’t need an account — they just open the link.
Why an account? Because your wishlist is more than a link.
- Your memories stay. Every list, every wish, every message from your guests and — except in surprise mode — who gave you what stays in your account. Years later you can still look up what you got for your wedding or your 40th.
- You know whom to thank. Without surprise mode, after the event you see all your givers and their messages at a glance and thank them personally.
- All occasions in one place. Birthday, wedding, baby, Christmas — your lists collected over the years instead of scattered across old links.
- Your list belongs only to you. Without an account, anyone who has the secret edit link controls the list — one wrongly forwarded link is enough. With us, you have to sign in.
- The surprise stays a surprise. So that you don’t see who gives what, we need to know that you created the list. A link can’t tell the difference.
- Contributions go straight to you — and your guests know whom they’re paying. Behind every list is an account with a confirmed email address; for card payments, Stripe also checks who receives the money.
- You miss nothing and lose nothing. We let you know when someone reserves or chips in (as long as your email notifications are on) — in surprise mode, your co-owner hears about it instead, if you have one. New phone, different browser — your lists are there right away.
- Your data, your decision. You decide what you share and can start deleting your account yourself at any time — after a short grace period, your personal data is anonymized.
And your guests?
They only reserve — the link is all they need. No Wishlist.de account, no app.
What we store — and what we don’t
We store your email address, your name (optionally a profile picture) and your wishlists.
We store no delivery addresses and no card or bank details. Payment data is handled only by Stripe or PayPal. All the details are in our privacy policy.
