Set up stream alerts for Twitch, YouTube and OBS

With Stream alerts an overlay appears in your stream whenever somebody reserves a wish or wants to support you. It is available on creator wishlists and works with any streaming software that supports a browser source — whether you go live on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, Kick or Facebook.

How it fits together

Here is the thing: you switch nothing on at Twitch, YouTube or TikTok. There is nothing to set there. The alert is a browser source that you add once to your streaming software:

Wishlist.de → your overlay link → your streaming software, OBS or Streamlabs or another → your stream.

Whatever you broadcast carries the alert with it, on every platform you are live on.

What you need

• A wishlist made with the creator template
• OBS Studio, or any other software with a browser source

Step 1: Turn stream alerts on

1. Open your wishlist and go to the Settings tab.
2. Open the Stream alerts section.
3. Use the Turn stream alerts on toggle and save.

Once saved, your personal OBS browser source URL appears.

Keep that link private. Anyone who has it can see your alerts and set them off. If you need a fresh one, press Create a new link — the old one stops working straight away.

The settings also give you a live Preview, a choice of look — Standard, Neon or Minimal — and a Send test alert control to try the whole thing out.

Step 2: Add the browser source in OBS

1. Copy the URL with the copy control.
2. Open OBS Studio.
3. Under your sources, press the plus and choose a browser source.
4. Give it a name, something like Wishlist Alerts, and confirm.
5. Paste the address you copied into the URL field.
6. Recommended size: width 800, height 300.
7. Confirm.

Streamlabs, Twitch Studio, XSplit and TikTok LIVE Studio all work the same way: add a browser source and put the URL in.

Step 3: Send a test alert

1. Leave OBS open with the browser source in it.
2. Press Send test alert in the settings.
3. Within a few seconds a sample alert appears in your overlay.

Nothing showing? Check that the browser source is visible and that the link is the current one.

The settings you can change

• Minimum amount for money alerts — the amount from which a money alert fires. Zero means every contribution sets one off. Reservations without money always show.
• Play a sound — turns the chime on or off.
• Design — Standard, Neon or Minimal.
• Alert duration — how long the alert stays on screen. Four choices: 4, 6, 8 or 12 seconds.

Platform notes

• Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Facebook: use OBS Studio, Streamlabs, Twitch Studio or XSplit and add the browser source as above. The steps are identical everywhere, and there is nothing extra to switch on at the platform.
• TikTok: browser sources only work on the desktop — with TikTok LIVE Studio, or with OBS through the TikTok stream key. The TikTok phone app has no browser sources, so alerts cannot go in there. TikTok LIVE also has to be unlocked for your account.
• Several platforms at once: if your software broadcasts to more than one platform, the alert appears on all of them by itself. One overlay link is enough.

Common questions

Do I need a Twitch account, or to be live, to test it? No. The overlay is an ordinary web page and has nothing to do with Twitch. Send test alert is all you need — or open your overlay address in a normal browser tab and fire a test alert. You see it immediately, with no stream at all.

When does an alert fire? As soon as somebody reserves something on your wishlist — that always fires — or wants to support you with money, as long as the amount reaches your minimum.

When exactly depends on the payment method. With cash, bank transfer and PayPal the alert appears the moment somebody commits — at that point it does not yet know whether the money arrives. With card payments through Stripe it waits for the confirmed payment: an abandoned or declined checkout no longer fires an alert.

Is any personal data shown? The overlay shows the name, the amount, the wish — and the message the fan wrote with it, which is shown on a single line and cut off after 200 characters. So expect it to be read out live. If somebody left no name, it says somebody or anonymous instead. Email addresses and payment details are never sent.

No sound in the overlay? In OBS, turn on the option to control audio through OBS in the properties of the browser source, and make sure the sound setting is on.
