After you reserve a gift
What happens once you’ve reserved or contributed on Wishlist.de — paying, delivery, and how to hand the gift over.
You reserved a gift or put money in — what now? It depends on which payment method the list owner chose, and this page walks through each one.
First things first
Wishlist.de puts givers and recipients in touch. That’s all it does.
- ✅ We show the organizer who’s giving what — unless the list is a surprise for them
- ✅ We coordinate group gifts
- ✅ We stop duplicate gifts
- ❌ We ship nothing
- ❌ Wishlist.de has no access to your money
If you reserved the whole gift
Two things are on you.
- Buy the gift — use the product link if there’s one, or buy it wherever you like
- Hand it over — bring it to the event, or send it to the person directly
Where you buy, when you buy and how you wrap it are entirely your call. Wishlist.de only passes on the wish.
If you contributed to a group gift
The money always goes directly to the organizer. Wishlist.de never has access to it at any point.
| Method | How it goes |
|---|---|
| Card and more (Stripe) | You pay during the reservation, on a secure payment page |
| PayPal | A PayPal button appears after you contribute — both sides need PayPal — and then you report the payment back |
| No online payment | Ask the organizer for their bank details, or hand the money over in person |
With Stripe
If the organizer set up Stripe:
- Enter your contribution and press Pay now
- A secure payment page opens — hosted by Stripe
- Choose how to pay — which methods you see depends on what the organizer’s Stripe account has switched on
- Finish the payment — done
The money goes straight to the organizer. You get an email confirmation if you gave your address.
With PayPal
If the organizer set up a PayPal link:
- Contribute — PayPal opens automatically with the amount filled in
- If the window doesn’t open, press Send via PayPal instead
- Pay in PayPal and come back to Wishlist.de
- Confirm with I paid via PayPal — your contribution then shows as Reported as paid. Not paid yet? I’ll send it later — keep my pledge keeps it as a pledge. Only closing the tab, or Cancel — I haven’t paid anything, leaves nothing behind
The organizer checks the money arrived and marks it received, because Wishlist.de can’t see PayPal payments itself.
Note: paying by PayPal needs a PayPal account of your own.
No payment button at all?
Then the list takes no money online — either nothing was set up, or its Stripe account is not ready yet, in which case a short note says so. Ask the organizer directly — through the wishlist chat if they switched it on, or however you normally reach them.
Delivery
For a product from an online shop you have three options.
| Option | How |
|---|---|
| Have it sent to you | Order normally, hand it over later |
| Straight to the recipient | Use their address — careful with the surprise |
| To the organizer | On a group gift, everything goes to one person |
On a group gift the organizer usually buys once everyone has paid, so there’s nothing for you to arrange beyond your contribution.
Experiences and vouchers often need no delivery at all. Print the emailed voucher, bring the tickets along, or hand a gift card over in person.
Emails
If we have your address — you typed one in, or you were signed in and it came from your account — you get a confirmation right after reserving, and a personal thank-you after the event if whoever runs the list sends one. That confirmation carries a cancellation link if you reserved without an account, and after a Stripe payment a refund link whether or not you have one.
Unless they switched those emails off, the organizer gets a notification about your reservation or contribution, and a target-reached notice when a group gift is fully funded. On a surprise list that note goes to the co-owner instead — and if there is none, to nobody, which is the point.
Common questions
Do I have to pay right away?
With Stripe you pay during the reservation, so it’s all one step. With PayPal or offline coordination you can pay later — but the sooner you do, the sooner the organizer can buy the gift.
Where do I find the organizer’s bank details?
Wishlist.de stores no bank details. With Stripe the payment runs through the secure payment page. With PayPal you press the PayPal button. With neither, ask the organizer.
What if I end up not buying the gift?
Cancel your reservation — there are three ways, and the first two need no account. If none of them fits, the organizer can do it for you.
- On the wishlist, without an account. In the same browser, and for up to 90 days, the gift shows a box called Your next step with a Cancel reservation button. Signed in you get your own reservation status there instead.
- By email, if you reserved without an account. Press the cancellation button in your confirmation. Works on any device.
- With an account. Open the wishlist and press Cancel reservation.
- None of those? Ask the organizer — they can cancel it for you from the gift’s contributor list.
Then somebody else can step in, which is the point. Every route and special case is in how to cancel a reservation.
By the way: if your gift falls through, the organizer can cancel your reservation too. They normally send you a short email about it, though they can turn that off if you’ve already sorted it out between yourselves.
Can I get my money back?
For a Stripe payment the organizer can issue a refund from their own Stripe dashboard. For PayPal or an offline payment, settle it with the organizer directly.
How do I know where to send the gift?
Wishlist.de stores no addresses. Ask the organizer or the recipient.
How safe are the payments?
With Stripe every payment detail is encrypted in transit and handled by Stripe, one of the largest payment providers there is. Wishlist.de never sees card numbers or bank details; what we store is the amount, whether it went through, and the transaction reference. The money always goes straight to the organizer.
